The Happy Doc

Oct 13, 2018

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. Wise-selfishness is a concept I learned from The Book Of Joy by the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu. It is the simple idea that in service of others, it’s okay to serve yourself. You may have heard of the golden rule: “do unto others as you would do to yourself.” But did you know that the golden rule is bi-directional? Do unto yourself as you would for others.
Being “selfish” is a great way to help others. When we utilize positive self-care we become the example. When we have great energy and feel refreshed we can better care for others. When we remove the guilt and shame around taking care of ourselves, we can better serve. Be wise-selfish.
